  • 1 medium onion (finely chopped)
  • 2 tbsp oil or lard
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1–2 tsp sweet Hungarian paprika
  • 3–4 cups vegetable or chicken broth
  • 1 bay leaf (optional)
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tbsp vinegar (or juice of ½ lemon)
  • 2–3 tbsp chopped fresh dill (or more to taste)
  • ½ cup sour cream (tejföl)
