🥮 Ingredients

For the Dough (makes 2 rolls):

  • 4 cups (500 g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup (225 g) unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • ½ cup (100 g) powdered sugar
  • 2 egg yolks
  • ¾ cup (180 ml) milk, lukewarm
  • 2 tsp instant yeast
  • Pinch of salt

For the Fillings: (choose walnut or poppy seed, or make both for tradition)

  • Walnut Filling (Diós):
    • 2 cups (200 g) ground walnuts
    • ½ cup (100 g) sugar
    • ½ cup (120 ml) warm milk
    • 1 tsp vanilla sugar
    • Zest of ½ lemon
  • Poppy Seed Filling (Mákos):
    • 2 cups (200 g) ground poppy seeds
    • ½ cup (100 g) sugar
    • ½ cup (120 ml) warm milk
    • 1 tsp vanilla sugar
    • Zest of ½ lemon

For Brushing:

  • 1 egg yolk (for shiny finish)
  • 1 egg white (for matte finish)
