🇭🇺 Classic Hungarian Cucumber Salad (Uborkasaláta)

Instructions:

  1. Salt the cucumbers:
Place thin cucumber slices in a bowl and sprinkle with salt. Mix and let sit for 15–30 minutes to draw out water.
  2. Drain and squeeze:
After resting, squeeze out excess moisture from cucumbers by hand or using a clean towel. Discard the liquid.
  3. Prepare the marinade:
In a small bowl, mix vinegar, sugar, water, minced garlic, and a pinch of pepper. Stir until sugar dissolves.
  4. Combine:
Pour the marinade over the cucumbers. Toss well to coat. Chill for at least 30 minutes (best if chilled 1–2 hours).
  5. Serve:
Just before serving, sprinkle with sweet paprika and a touch of freshly ground black pepper.
👉 Optional: Add a dollop of sour cream on top or mix it in for the creamy version.

Serving Tip:
This salad is often served as a cold side dish with rich meat dishes, especially pörkölt, paprikás, or fried meats.
